If you are checking your CDCP application status and it says “Approved,” then everything is in order. The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is now ready to help cover your dental care costs, but there is one thing you should know before calling your dentist.
You do not need to wait for your Sun Life card to receive treatment. Simply bring your member ID, identification, coverage start date, and co-payment level to your first appointment. All the information you need is provided in your enrollment letter.
How to Check Your CDCP Application Status (2 Ways)
You can check the status of your Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) application as approved, pending, or rejected in two simple ways:
Online ( It is the Fastest Way)

- Go to the CDCP status checker on Canada.ca
- Enter your application code or client/member ID (from your confirmation letter)
- Add your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Click on the Check Status Button.
By Phone (24/7)
- Call 1-833-537-4342 (automated service)
- For hearing assistance: 1-833-677-6262 (TTY)
- Note: If your child doesn’t have a SIN, you must speak with a representative
You can also view your CDCP letters by logging into your My Service Canada Account (MSCA). It usually takes about 4 to 6 weeks from the day you apply to get a final answer.
How Long Does CDCP Approval Take?
| Application Type | Typical Processing Time |
|---|---|
| Online (CRA My Account) | 1–2 weeks |
| Phone or Paper | May take longer |
Once approved, you’ll get:
- Enrollment letter (mail or email) with your CDCP number and start date
- Sun Life welcome package (physical card) within a few weeks
Your coverage start date is when you can book an appointment, not the date you apply. Please check your letter for this date.
How Many Times Can You Use CDCP?
The CDCP lets you get regular dental care, but some services have limits:
What’s Covered Every Year
| Service | How Often |
|---|---|
| Routine dental exam | Once every 12 months |
| Teeth cleaning | 1 time per year (sometimes 2 if needed) |
| X-rays | As needed for diagnosis |
| Fluoride treatment | Once per year (kids & high-risk adults) |
CDCP Application Renewal Deadline Just Passed (June 1, 2026)
If you are a CDCP member, you have missed the June 1, 2026, renewal deadline. This means:
- You must reapply instead of renewing.
- There will continue to be a gap in coverage until your new application is approved.
- Services rendered during this interval will not be covered retrospectively.
New applications for 2026–2027 are now open (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027). Don’t wait — apply soon to avoid losing coverage longer.
CDCP Renewal Timeline:
| Detail | Date |

| Deadline | June 1, 2026 (MISSED) |
| New application period | July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027 |
